2010 Loto-Québec International Fireworks Competition - The Five Competing Teams
Loto-Québec International Fireworks Competition
The five competing teams
Saturday July 24 – Canada (Company: Archangel Fireworks Inc.)
Archangel Fireworks debuted in the Loto-Québec International Fireworks Competition in 2009 and took the trophy. This year, they’ll be back to defend it. The show designers, Kelly Guille and Sean Procter, believe that music naturally goes through changes as time goes on. A composer intends to deliver a feeling, emotion, or message through music. When another musician or band plays the same song, the emotions often change in line with the new artist’s intention. The words remain the same, but the song has taken on new life and new meanings. While such musical ‘theft’ may be deplored by some, Archangel Fireworks will prove just how good new versions of old classics can be!
Wednesday July 28 – Spain (Company: Pirotecnia Igual)
The audience will enjoy “Hell & Heaven”—a re-creation of the struggle between light and darkness, and an exercise of strength and imagination. With its special style, modern designs, and specialties in kamuros, golden willows, and strobes, Pirotecnia Igual will mix the power of Iberian fire with cutting-edge choreographies. The show designers, Albert Rovira, Xavier Galan, and Marc Jouffroy, will use the latest technologies in design and display to create an astonishing ambiance!
Saturday July 31 – France (Company: Féérie)
Show designers Joël and David Hamon will make the most of the natural backdrop to Montmorency Falls for their show “Life or the Story of a Life.” The French company will blow its audience away with a gripping performance that depicts a life that has just come into being. One by one, the pyrotechnical frescos in harmony with the music will illustrate the different life stages from birth to the age of serenity. The company was formed in 1992 and is known for its creativity, its imagination, and the emotion it creates through its musical selections and interplay of colours.
Wednesday August 4 - Mexico (Company: Lux Pirotecnia, S.A. de C.V.)
Show designer Jorge M. Márquez and his Mexican team will present “Conquest of the Sky.” The company is best known for the originality of its performances and its knack for choosing the best soundtrack for each event. The musical selection for the show, inspired by Montmorency Falls, is diverse and ranges from powerful tempos to pre-Hispanic music and conga rhythms, ending with playful, inspiring, and motivating music. They hope everybody will get as much enjoyment watching the show as they did designing it.
Saturday August 7 – United States (Company: Rozzi Inc. / Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks)
Show designers John Rozzi and Dustin Purvis intend to get the audience moving with “In the Mood”—a tribute to the Big Band Era that promises to galvanize the audience with a lot of hoppin’ swingin’ fun! Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks is the oldest fireworks company in the United States still producing and putting on shows. Today, the fourth generation is continuing to bring the company’s expertise to the art of fireworks and promises to be a proud representative of the United States in this competition.
Wednesday August 11 - Loto-Québec Grand FinaleBefore we disclose the 2010 winner of the “Loto-Québec Solstice” prize and the winner of the “Coup de cœur du public – National Bank Financial Group” prize, Québec City pyrotechnician Benoît Berthelet will offer a fireworks show that features the most striking highlights of each of the 5 performances of the competing teams. This sound and light virtuoso will finish off the evening with a colourful and emotion-charged sequence that will remain forever engraved in the memories of all spectators.
